Filmmaker, writer, director, musician Costa Kalogiros, was born in Athens, Greece on August 28, 1978. In 1986 and at the age of 8, he was an actor to big theatre productions and TV shows, credited then as “a wonder-kid.”
Always passionate and captivated about the work behind the cameras, he started filming with a VHS from the age of 12. In 1999 he went to Perth, Australia to study filmmaking at the Murdoch University. Coming back to Greece in 2003, he started working as a production coordinator for “Max Productions,” in concerts with artists such as “Shakira, George Michael, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Tori Amos, Pink” and many more. Also, started directing all the TVC’s for the company. In 2005, he quickly drew attention of the producers by one of the biggest TV stations in Greece “Alpha TV,” where they assigned him to be the director of one of the most successful TV shows in the country “Change it,” with Spiro Soulis. He stayed there for 3 years. After that, in 2008, he left for Berlin to start his film life.
In 2009 he wrote and directed his first short film entitled “Apology.” It had a big acceptance by critics and audience and it made its official premiere , in Cannes Film Festival , during the short film corner, in 2010. Shortly after he is winning the award for “Best Director,” at the “Cyprus international film festival,” and special mentions in many other festivals as well.
After “Apology,” he started writing his feature film entitled “picnolepsy,” which is now in development. He directed also many short films and music videos while in Berlin, such as “Buenos Aires nos vemos en Berlin,” “in the skin,” “Mens Rea” and more.
He went back to Greece in search for his roots again, in 2014. He filmed some more shorts while always working developing his feature film, with “Marecage,” “An urban mirage,” “DOAN,” and “for poetry can fix you,” which hit the festivals on spring 2019, been his latest works.
Costa is mentoring in filmmaking courses, in Greece and abroad, specialised in screenwriting an directing.
